The start of my au pair life

Au pair

In August,

I moved to Sydney from Brisbane where I’d lived for four months since April.

I’m supposed to live with an Australian family as an au pair.

Today, my host father will pick me up.

It’s first meeting with the family.

As I was waiting nervously, a car stopped nearby.

And then, a man came towards me waving his hand.

< First impression >

… He is Golgo13 ?!!

(↑ A famous Japanese magazine main character.)
(※ Although he has a kinder face.)

Anyway, he has powerful eyes.

We’d talked by message but I didn’t see his eyes because he was wearing sunglasses in his profile.

His 4th grade son also came to pick me up and was sitting in the passenger seat.

I was a little shaken, but when I loaded my bags and sat I the back seat, I found a bouquet of white flowers.

Father: “ Welcome to our family, Hotaru. This is a welcome bouquet! ”

What a wonderful host father…😳✨

I spent several minutes admiring the flowers as I headed towards my host family’s house.

That time, I thought,

‘A bouquet on the back seat…

– Is this a scene from the Spirited Away?!!’
(↑A Japanese famous movie. It has a similar scene to this at the beginning.)

And then,

Father: “ We have a dog. Are you ok with dog? ”

Me: Yes!
(In my mind: Oh no! I hadn’t heard that💦 I got scared of dogs because I was chased by a dog recently;-()

In this way, my au pair life started with me being surprised, joyful and little bit upset.

The picture is in the car on the way home. Although the direction was a little deferent, he took me on a detour to the Sydney Harbor Bridge, which has the most lanes in the world. His son is in the passenger seat.

Q. What is au pair?

 Hi, guys!
Au pair is a job which the person helps to take care of a family’s children and do housework while staying at the family’s home.
We (The host family) provide all of the cost of living, rooms and food, for an au pair instead of having the au pair work for us. Therefore, if you become an au pair, you can live free.
An au pair can do home stay almost free of change and we can get more family time. Moreover, we can do culture exchange with each other. It’s a good job, isn’t it?
