Oi!

Au pair

It has been one week since I started living with Nana and her doogs.

There was one word which Nana said that makes me flinch every time I heard it.

Oi!!

She sometimes said it when she warned the dogs about something.

I knew the meaning at a later day, it seemed that this word is similar to 「こらっ!(Kora!)」in Japanese.

I think she said the word loudly and intimidatingly to warn that it was bad completely.

Today, I would like to introduce some words which dog owners say to their beloved dogs.

① Oi

The word meaning is similar to 「こらっ!」in Japanese.
The word is intimidating so they use it when they need to warn severely. They use “No” or “Ah, ah ” when they warn of not so serious things.

② Good boy/girl

They use it when they praise dogs.
The word meaning is similar to 「いい子[Iiko]」in Japanese. They can say “Good puppy” when they tell puppies. The opposite word is “Bad dog”.

③ Come / Come on!

It means 「こっちにおいで([kocchinioide]/E: Come here.)」.
About “Come on”, I have the impression that in conversation between people, they usually pronounce normally “Came on” but when they tell dogs they often say “Came[cyum]  on” perhaps because they are affectionate towards them.

④ Sit

– 「お座り」[Osuwari]

⑤ Stay

– 「待て」[Mate]

⑥ Leave it

– No Japanese
It meaning is similar to 「待て」but it means just leave without touch something to food or things.

⑦ Drop

– 「離せ」[Hanase]
The word is used to let dogs drop stuff they are biting.

⑧ Off

– No Japanese
The word is used to avoid dogs jumping on to people.

And so on…

No matter what country, there is no change that people live with their pets as a part of the family.

I don’t know if it is correct because I haven’t had dogs, but in my opinion, dog training words, English has more variation than Japanese and I can give them more detailed commands.

It may be a good idea to train your dog in English.

Buddy is happy to be rub. I am often surprised that dogs have so many emotions.
